Our History
Our Department Was Founded in 1904
On October 4, 1904, in the little town of Gloninger, the need to protect the village from fire was growing more and more apparent. On that day, the Neversink Fire Company No. 1 was born. On December 19, 1904, the company was officially incorporated.
The company’s first order of business: purchase a fire truck. On November 21, 1905, a contract was signed with the American LaFrance Fire Engine Company to buy a No.1 — 60-gallon straight chemical engine — for $1,330.00. This engine would be drawn by hand and housed in a stable owned by Robert Beck.
From these humble beginnings, Neversink has seen tremendous growth.
Today, Neversink Fire Company houses two fire engines, one water tanker, one utility vehicle, and one duty/command vehicle. We operate out of a single station in North Cornwall Township, covering 9.5 square miles and serving over 9,000 residents in a fast-growing Class 2 township.
